David Beckham reveals he rejected a move to Barcelona, forcing Manchester United to cancel the deal before he signed for Real Madrid
Former England captain David Beckham has revealed Manchester United had agreed to sell him to Barcelona but the youngster rejected a move to the Catalan capital before signing for Real Madrid in the summer of 2003.
‘Peter Kenyon called me during the holiday สนใจสมัคร? คลิกที่นี่เพื่อเริ่มต้น and said the club had accepted an offer from Barca,’ Beckham revealed. ‘I told them if I had to leave United, I would go to Madrid.’
Beckham’s uncompromising stance eventually forced United to cancel their deal with Barcelona, before the young Beckham signed for Real Madrid 48 hours later.
‘They had to cancel the signing and a day and a half later everything was ready for me to sign for Madrid.’
“My team had always been Real Madrid. And it’s funny to see that I was sold from Manchester United to Barcelona. I was on vacation and Peter Kenyon called me and told me they’d accepted an offer from Barcelona. And I said, ‘If you’re going to sell me, the only club I’m willing to move to is Real Madrid.’ I’d always dreamed of playing for Madrid, ever since I was a kid. I didn’t think I was going to leave United. But if I had to, I wanted it to be to go to Madrid. And if United wanted me to go, it had to be to go to Madrid. They had to back out of everything. In a day and a half, it was done and undone.”
Beckham’s refusal to join Barcelona proved to be a positive for the Blaugrana afterwards, with the Catalan giants turning their attention to Ronaldinho from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Brazilian making history with the club.
